SEIKO Grand Quartz & Grand Seiko

Grand Seiko… A resounding name that Seiko has developed over the years into a stand-alone luxury watch brand. The Grand Seiko's from the sixties were supplemented in the early 70's with very ingenious quartz timepieces.

Simplicity over complexity, legibility over decorations, and most important of all accuracy over function; the people at Seikosha made these three values inform their design from conception, such that the very notion of something as simple as telling the time can be perfected. Seiko set a goal that was higher than any Japanese watch company had ever accomplished: to surpass Swiss chronometer standards and create a timepiece to be called the King of all Watches the legend that is Grand Seiko.

At the start of the Quartz era the Grand Quartz was regarded by Seiko as superior to the Grand Seiko's and that was reflected in the price. The quartz Grand Seiko's was more expensive and was also much more accurate than their mechanical counterparts. Nowadays the vintage Grand Seiko's are more expensive, however the Grand Quartz is making a glorious comeback with stunning timepieces that even look better then most new Seiko's do today.

This GQ tells perfect time and all its functions (day/date, quick-set) work as they should. The only thing to mention is that its glass has slight scratches which are visible  just on the 11'th hour indice and the just before the day indicator. These scratches are light and the glass of this watch is easy replaceable since it has no distinctive features.

This GQ from 1980 has a very nice heavy quality steel strap that goes up to a wrist of 18.5 cm. And that is also unique with this beautiful band because it is a band without adjustable clasp. The glass has recently been polished due to light / small scratches.
